Provence - Southern France - The rest of the honeymoon!

After a week in Paris, we took the TGV train down to Avignon to begin our tour of southern France. We chose Avignon due to its proximity to the Cote du Rhone wine region and because it was close enough to drive to Nice, which is where we were to fly out of.

Taking the TGV from Paris to Avignon

Avignon was nice, though I think we would have enjoyed it much more if it was summer. We were spoiled by Paris, and the walking around was not nearly as scenic or spectacular as what we had already seen. It is definitely a slower paced area of France compared to Paris.

On day 9, we took our car and drove from Avignon to Saignon (just outside of Apt), but we took the scenic route. We went through Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vanosque, and then once we checked into our hotel in Saignon, we backtracked through lots of villages in the Luberon. It was a fantastic day ended by a great meal at the little restaurant owned by our hotel.

Cherry Blossoms near Vanosque - at least something was blooming!

On day 10, we drove from Saignon to Nice. Chad was given the option of the quick highway or the long back way. Chad chose the scenic route, and we were both glad that he did.
